A Little Bit About...

Snazzy.

Working on lots of business cards. I guess working in a salon with ten people, someone always needs new cards. Here's the latest one:

Lauren had a really cool idea to have two different backs to her cards, one for clients and one for referrals. The back for her client cards will look like this:

And her referrals get this card:

Clever design concept, I thought!

That's all for now. I wish I could update this more regularly but without a scanner I don't have much to show for myself.

I have a lot of sketches

So I've been sketching a lot, but in my sketchbook and not my wacom tablet, and I am in desperate need of a high-quality scanner so that I may scan in my sketches and then use them for my wacom tablet. I'm pretty sure Kinko's has shitty scanners and the closest SCAD facility is a few thousand miles away. I feel quite lost sometimes with SCAD's awesome facilities no longer at my disposal. So I think I'm going to save up and buy a fancy scanner, I see no other way around it. Street corner, here I come.

(Just kidding, Mom.)

But really, anyone out there with awesome scanners? If so what are your experiences? Price range and quality, etc? I've been shopping around online but I think I need to go into Office Depot for a legit run down.

No pix this time, obvi, because I am sans scanner. But I'll tell you what I've been up to. Now that I'm out of school I feel as though I need to teach myself, so I've given myself assignments and homework (I think after being in school for twenty years I don't know any other way to progress). I noticed that most my drawings are singular objects without context or background, without any real depth to the composition. So I've assigned myself ten pages of environment scenes, five interior and five exterior settings. So far I've drawn a swamp, a mountain range, and a doctor's office. I'm about to draw the very salon I work in, whoo! I've also often said, "I can't draw in a straight line," which is true, probably because I can't think in a straight line either. So I've assigned myself ten pages of nothing but buildings (no ruler allowed, I think that's cheating unless you're an architect). And just to soften the load I've also assigned myself sketches of every single LOST character ever, but that's really just for fun and to get myself hyped up for next season (already counting down the months/days/hours).

So, once I have access to an awesome scanner I'll post my progress and let you be the judge. I sometimes find myself getting bored with interior scenes, everything is so gridded out and square, but I push myself through it and try to make it fun.

Peace.

Biz Cardz

Since I started doing hair again, I decided I needed new business cards.

Hair-breathing sky monster? Yes.
I think I'm going to have them cut with the rounded edges. I can't wait to get them printed!

My co-worker and friend Sky is about to run out of her cards and so we're trading out. These are hers:

Traditional sketching!

I've done some cintiq sketchin, but I like the oldschool way too ;) so here ya go.

OH AND sorry the quality of these scans are soooo awful. Here I am at Kinkos and without SCAD's awesome facilities at my disposal. Cannot afford $5000 scanner yet.

These are some sketches for a potential children's book I'm going to illustrate. It will be based around this character, Leia.

My baby Boo snoozin. He has the biggest ears and feet but the smallest body. So cute.

Quick five minute sketch at Caribou coffee while the wifi was down. This guy was awesome, he asked me what year my Macbook was, lol.

Some sketches I did at the Georgia Aquarium, which by the way is completely and totally AWESOME. I could have easily spent all day in there being completely mesmerized.

Well, that's all for now. Hopefully next time I'll find a better scanner. Hope you've enjoyed, lovelies.

Possible Products?

Do you think anyone would buy my products?

Wow.

Sorry it's been so long, faithful readers. What with my life being in complete and utter turmoil for a few months I haven't had time to update. But I'll show you what I've been up to lately.

An image from a project for my printmaking class that I nevergot to use, so I decided to recycle it into something else. I'm trying to think in terms of t-shirt friendly graphics so that maybe someday I will have t-shirts available featuring artwork from yours truly.

A self portrait using my wacom tablet. Not quite finished but it's getting there.

For some reason I've started making patterns in my spare time, this is one of my designs at work. If you want to use it, the image is here on my flickr page.

I've also begun a tape art wall mural in my room that I have plenty of time to dedicate myself to since I'm unemployed, ha! No pictures of that yet but once I get a hold of a camera I will post some in-progress photos.

Well that's all for now, I will try to be more diligent in posting here. And if you know of anyone who needs an illustrator in the Atlanta area please let me know, I just moved here less than a week ago and am looking for a job. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
